Ah, the magic of British TV. No matter how busy Idris Elba’s movie schedule might get, there’s always time for more Luther. The fan-favorite DCI will officially return for a fifth season, filming in 2018.

Sure, Sherlock has his upcoming Victorian special and a fourth season beyond that, while Idris Elba’s Luther will make a grand mini-series return, and Gillian Anderson’s The Fall also readies another run, but forget all that. Idris Elba’s name has flown about every corner of the internet with James Bond and Star Trek speculation, but December will see the Luther star returning to one of his most popular roles. The BBC has officially scheduled a one-night event for the next Luther special, also revealing our first photos and details.

Earlier this week, in our column detailing the titles expiring on Netflix Instant in January, many of you were probably disappointed to discover that most of your favorite BBC shows (and some you maybe didn’t know about) were leaving the streaming service at the end of this month. But you can all rest easy now, as Netflix has revealed that their deal with the BBC will remain firmly in place, and shows like ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Luther’ aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Well, if FOX’s American remake of ‘Broadchurch’ didn’t send mobs of flaming pitchforks to the ‘Gracepoint’ set, we suppose this was bound to happen. Idris Elba’s revered detective drama ‘Luther’ looks to get its own FOX remake as well, with series creator Neil Cross on board to write and Elba in line to produce.
