Gerald’s Game is, without a doubt, the most difficult Stephen King novel to adapt, which is why it’s taken a little while for the film version to get off the ground. But with Oculus director Mike Flanagan on board and two leads now secured, it looks like this thing might actually happen after all — and it’ll be interesting to see how Flanagan translates one of King’s most unnerving stories into a feature film.

Mike Flanagan has had a big year, with three of his movies—Before I Wake, Ouija: Origin of Evil, and Netflix’s Hush—all premiering in 2016. Next, he’s taking on Stephen King’s horrific Gerald’s Game, about a woman named Jessie whose husband is into sexual domination play, and who leaves her handcuffed to a bed only to have a heart attack and die minutes later. Jessie is left chained to the bed for days while she might be going mad, because there appears to be another presence in the room with her.

2014's Ouija didn’t exactly receive glowing reviews, but that hasn’t stopped Universal from resurrecting a sequel out of it. Ouija: Origin of Evil has a completely new cast and a different story from the original, the only thing carried over from one to the other being, of course, the titular board. Today the film debuted a chilling new trailer.

Such is the case in the trailer for Before I Wake, the new film from Oculus director Mike Flanagan, who takes that adorable kid from Room and turns him into a parent’s worst nightmare — literally.

If titles like Masterminds and Before I Wake seem a bit familiar to you, that’s because you’ve read about them before. You may have even watched a trailer for one of them. Those films, along with The Disappointments Room and Kidnap, are finally seeing the light of day following Relativity’s emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which caused a delay in the release of several of their films that were originally meant to hit theaters long before now.

Thanks to his work on the highly-effective horror flick Oculus, director Mike Flanagan immediately lined up a handful of jobs — he co-wrote last year’s teen horror movie Ouija, directed the upcoming horror film Before I Wake, and has reportedly been attached to an adaptation of Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game. Up next, Flanagan will once again enter the spooky world of Ouija, as he’s signed on to write and direct the upcoming sequel.

Oculus was one of the more entertaining horror films of last year, while Ouija was kind of a puzzling box office success. Never underestimate the power of the teenage demographic, I guess. Due to its success, we’re getting the inevitable Ouija sequel, but there’s some promising news: this time around, the writers of Oculus will deliver the screenplay, ensuring that Ouija 2 will at least have a few fun tricks up its sleeve.

While 'Oculus' wasn't a titan at the box office like 'The Conjuring,' it was definitely quite a clever and spooky little horror flick, making director Mike Flanagan a name to keep an eye on. Flanagan has set his next project, and it's certainly going to take someone with clever ideas for an adaptation of Stephen King's 'Gerald's Game'
