Oculus was one of the more entertaining horror films of last year, while Ouija was kind of a puzzling box office success. Never underestimate the power of the teenage demographic, I guess. Due to its success, we’re getting the inevitable Ouija sequel, but there’s some promising news: this time around, the writers of Oculus will deliver the screenplay, ensuring that Ouija 2 will at least have a few fun tricks up its sleeve.

Deadline reports that the follow-up will follow “a group of unsuspecting friends who must confront their most terrifying fears when they unleash an evil from the other side that only they can send back,” which is basically (okay, totally) the same plot as the first film. Insert new characters and location, and…profit.

Oculus writers Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard will script Ouija 2, which was first announced by Universal back in January. Flanagan (who also directed Oculus) is preparing to unleash his next horror film, Before I Wake, in September. He’s also attached to write and direct an adaptation of one of Stephen King’s more difficult-to-adapt novels, Gerald’s Game.

Ouija 2 will be produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions alongside Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller’s Platinum Dunes.

Ouija 2 hits theaters on October 21, 2016, but if you have a Ouija board, you probably already saw that coming.
