Following yesterday’s debut of eight new (and totally rad) character posters, Marvel has unleashed a new sneak peek at Thor: Ragnarok. The special look at the sequel premiered during last night’s NFL season opener, and somewhat appropriately opens with Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster touting the “main event” — which is, of course, the gladiator-style battle between Thor and his work friend, Hulk. Oh, and also there’s a giant wolf?!

Thor: Ragnarok looks truly rad. The trailers for Taika Waititi’s upcoming sequel tease a film that’s supremely funny and wildly colorful and really, really cool; it’s like watching a trailer for the movie version of the smiley face with sunglasses emoji, or a movie called “Rad Dudes With Bad Attitudes.” Marvel’s promotional materials for Ragnarok are definitely in keeping with that particular aesthetic, like this series of eight new, neon-colored character posters — even Jeff Friggin’ Goldblum and Anthony Hopkins get their own posters.

If there is any upside to James Cameron (again) putting his foot in his mouth  —  this time by talking about Wonder Woman  —  it was the resulting conversation about how female action stars should be presented in Hollywood. As our own Emma Stefansky wrote at the time, feminism and depictions of femininity onscreen aren’t a one-size-fits-all equation; creating a false dichotomy between two types of female action stars  —  where everyone has to be either a Diana Prince or a Sarah Connor  —  only places limits on the ways women can be depicted in film and television. Filmmakers should be free to find the depictions of femininity that works for their characters.

The electric, neon typography of the Thor: Ragnarok trailers was just one of many things that got us hyped about the Taika Waititi film – Cate Blanchett’s Hela being 99 percent of those other ‘many things.’ Marvel took that psychedelic aesthetic even further with the new poster that dropped at Comic-Con last month, glowing with phosphorescent color. Hopefully you’re not tired of that look just yet because Empire magazine debuted two new Thor: Ragnarok covers full of colorful neon.

If you’re not excited for Annihilation, you should be. Jeff VanderMeer’s book is one of those novels you don’t hear much about until someone thrusts it into your hands, and then suddenly everyone seems to be talking about it. It’s surreal, baffling, and beautiful, and Alex Garland’s (Ex Machina) film adaptation has finally, finally gotten an official release date.

Man, that Infinity War cast was looking a little sparse, wasn’t it? I dunno if I trust such a teensy amount of people to save the universe from an all-powerful alien god. Don’t you think they could use a few more actors to round it out? Well, good news: Tessa Thompson is now confirmed to be shooting scenes as her character Valkyrie in the next Avengers movie.

New ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Plot Details Revealed
There was a whole lot to take in from the first official Thor: Ragnarok photos, which debuted yesterday and revealed Cate Blanchett’s goth-y villain, Jeff Goldblum’s eccentric Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson’s warrior Valkyrie and, oh yeah, Thor’s super-short new haircut. Some big changes are afoot in the nine realms, and we’re not just talking about Thor’s makeover; director Taika Waititi has created a more colorful, more humorous return to Asgard, and after seeing those first photos, we’re sure you have lots of questions about the plot of Ragnarok.
