The Little Prince

Record Number of Animated Films Eligible for Oscar This Year
Since the introduction of the Best Animated Feature Oscar at the 74th Academy Awards in 2002, we’ve seen a steady exponential increase in animated movies over the years. Pixar, and, by extent, Disney, has usually dominated the competition, with eight wins out of ten nominations, followed by DreamWorks and Disney’s animation studio. This year, we have a record 27 movies eligible for the award, and while the Academy can pick only five to nominate, for now it’s anyone’s game.
Abandoned by Paramount, “The Little Prince” Ends Up at Netflix
French thinker Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s popular novella The Little Prince uses the story of a young boy and a grounded pilot as a portal to hidden worlds of profound emotion, conjuring loneliness, sadness and helplessness from simple language and potent symbols. And so it was weirdly fitting when, a mere week before the film adaptation’s scheduled release, Paramount abruptly dropped it from their slate and pulled it from theaters. Not unlike le petit prince himself, Mark Osborne’s animated rendering of the beloved story was abandoned and left to float around in the vast expanse of the film marketplace. This story has a more straightforwardly happy ending than de Saint-Exupéry’s, though — Netflix has now picked up the rights to the film.
‘The Little Prince’ Trailer: A Beloved Classic Returns
To be fair, every film with Jeff Bridges is a magical journey, but perhaps none more enchanting than The Little Prince. The official trailer for the long-developing animated film based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s acclaimed children’s novella has landed, promising a lovely, sweet and sometimes funny adventure, with exceptionally beautiful animation.
Paramount Plans ‘SpongeBob SquarePants 3’
The third feature-length SpongeBob SquarePants movie has been set for February 8, 2019. The follow-up to this year’s fabulously successful Sponge Out of Water (a $315.9 million box-office receipt is nothing to sneeze at) and 2004’s The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie will rejoin the helium-voiced cleaning implement and his undersea pals with all major voice actors returning, bringing Squidward, Sandy, Patrick, and Mr. Krabs to theaters to the delight of children nationwide once more.
