When is a superhero movie like Game of Thrones? When it’s the most pirated movie of the year, of course. On a new list of all the movies downloaded from popular torrenting site BitTorrent, the merc with a mouth tops the chart over Batman v. Superman, Captain America: Civil War, and The Force Awakens.

Emmanuel Lubezki just won his third Academy Award, marking a three-year-in-a-row streak for the Mexican cinematographer. Like ‘Birdman’ last year, Lubezki’s second collaboration with Alejandro Iñarritu, ‘The Revenant,’ won big at the 2016 Oscars, certifying him one of the most celebrated cinematographers of our time.

The Revenant is a film that expresses more through visuals and atmosphere than dialogue or character development alone.

In showbiz circles, you might hear savvy types bring up what’s colloquially referred to as the “Oscar bump,” which, incredibly, is not a euphemism at all related to cocaine. When a performer or film takes home an Academy Award, that provides a welcome increase in their public profile — actors hot off their Oscar win pretty much have their pick of the most plum roles available at the time, and a victory in one of the key categories can draw attention to a film and possibly beef up its box-office numbers, in the event that it’s still floating around theaters. Put simply, winning an Oscar is good business.

Each year’s ceremony usually yields a handful of viral moments, little unexpected happenings that catch the public’s interest and make their way around social media platforms. Last year, the surprise selfie taken by host Ellen Degeneres quickly set Twitter ablaze, racking up millions of retweets and favorites in a matter of minutes. This year’s ceremony re-set that bar, with Leonardo DiCaprio’s long-awaited Best Actor win now the most-tweeted Oscar moment of all time.

IT FINALLY HAPPENED. Leonardo DiCaprio has won his very first Academy Award. Whether you were rooting for or against ‘The Revenant’, whether you think he deserved the award for his grunting and groaning as Hugh Glass or just wanted him to win a damn Oscar already, it doesn’t matter. He’s officially in the Oscar club now.

Alejandro G. Iñarritu just made Oscar history. ‘The Revenant’ filmmaker took home the Academy Award for Best Director on Sunday, the third time in the awards’ history a director has won in two consecutive years. Joseph L. Mankiewicz was the last director to win the award back-to-back in 1950 and 1951, following John Ford’s ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ and ‘How Green Was My Valley’ wins in 1941 and 1942, respectively.

Leonardo DiCaprio has never won an Oscar. We’ve heard this narrative time and time again, especially as he inches closer and closer to finally winning an Academy Award for his work in The Revenant, but it’s time for us as a people to stand up and do something about it. OK, maybe just sit down and do something about it. And by “do something” we mean play a video game.
