There is a new poster for Terminator: Dark Fate out, ahead of the premiere of the film’s trailer tomorrow. Typically, this isn’t the kind of thing we’d devote a separate post to, but in this case we’ll make an exception because a) it’s a new Terminator movie and b) this poster includes a really ingenious callback to the original film.

First, let’s see if you can spot it on your own without any help. Here’s the poster, with Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor for the first time since Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Anything about it stand out to you?

Look closely. Notice those mountains in the background behind Linda Hamilton? Do they look familiar. They should. They previously appeared in the final shot of the original Terminator, when a young, pregnant Sarah Connor bravely drove off into a looming storm to face a (wait for it) dark fate alone. On this Dark Fate poster, more than 30 years later, she’s seen striding back from the mountains, along the same desert road, headed towards who knows what.

Here’s that shot from the end of James Cameron’s The Terminator:

Terminator: Dark Fate opens in theaters on November 1, 2019. (And credit to the eagle-eyed Schwarzeneggerholics of The Arnold Fans for spotting this. They’re a must-follow for Arnold fans.)
