It’s been a long road for Duncan JonesWarcraft movie — Jones signed on for the ambitious project almost three years ago, and today brings the first actual footage from the epic blockbuster in anticipation of Friday’s full trailer. Although brief, the teaser is a bit more revealing than most of its annoying “teaser for a teaser trailer” brethren, and given how long we’ve waited to see something from Warcraft, it’s better than nothing at all.

The Lord of the Rings comparisons will be inevitable, but there’s some pretty impressive stuff going on in this teaser: a fully-realized fictional city, vast armies, orcs and mythical warriors leaping and bounding about over stunning landscapes, etc., etc. Production has been rather lengthy as so much of the film is CG, and depending on how you feel about the increasing presence of computer generated material in movies, Warcraft may not be for you.

It also remains to be seen if Warcraft can find a large enough audience — the game itself certainly has its legions of fans and players, but average moviegoers aren’t going to have the slightest clue what this is, aside from drawing the obvious visual link to Lord of the Rings. It’ll be interesting to see if and how Legendary attracts a sizable audience. For a film this pricey, they’ll need it.

Warcraft stars Toby Kebbell, Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster and Dominic Cooper, and is officially described as follows:

The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home.

So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.

Warcraft hits theaters on June 10, 2016.
