Great news, BRUUUUUUUUUCE fans. Western Stars — the recently announced hybrid concert film based on Bruce Springsteen’s latest album — is getting a theatrical release. Warner Bros. announced today it would distribute the film in theaters, and also unveiled the first trailer for the movie, which Springsteen stars in and co-directed with Thom Zimny:

The synopsis for the film, from the press release:

Springsteen’s first studio album in five years, Western Stars marks a departure for the legendary singer/songwriter while still drawing on his roots. Touching on themes of love and loss, loneliness and family and the inexorable passage of time, the documentary film evokes the American West—both the mythic and the hardscrabble—weaving archival footage and Springsteen’s personal narration with song to tell the story of Western Stars. “Western Stars” offers fans the world over their only opportunity to see Springsteen perform all 13 songs on the album, backed up by a band and a full orchestra, under the cathedral ceiling of his historic nearly 100-year-old barn.

The autobiographical narration talking about Springsteen’s life, blending with performances definitely recalls Springsteen’s recent Broadway show (which was turned into a Netflix film directed by Zimny). There’s also archival footage of Springsteen throughout his life and career, which could make this a really nice companion piece to Springsteen on Broadway.

Warners didn’t announce a specific release date for Western Stars, which premieres next month at the Toronto International Film Festival, but they did say fans can see an “exclusive first look” at the film before screenings of the Bruce-inspired Blinded By the Light. This is truly the beginning of a Golden Age of Boss Cinema.
