We were intrigued to see what the WGN America network conjured up with its first original scripted series, 'Salem,' particularly after getting a chance to visit the set, but its second original drama, 'Manhattan,' looks to have a lot more power behind it. Witness the drama behind the creation of the atomic bomb with its first trailer.

Based on the real-life secretive Manhattan Project in New Mexico, the new series created and written by Sam Shaw ('Masters of Sex') will premiere on Sunday, July 27 on WGN. We'll have another opportunity to visit the set and bring you the inside scoop on 'Manhattan,' but in the meantime, here's what WGN had to say of the series:

'Manhattan' is set in the 1940s in a town whose very existence is classified. Frank Winter and his team of brilliant but flawed scientists have been recruited to work on a project even they could know nothing about until their arrival.

Once inside “The Hill,” a middle-class bubble on a dusty foothill in the New Mexico desert, they begin to sense that this is no ordinary assignment. In fact, they are living in a town with the world’s highest concentration of geniuses, yet it can’t be found on any map — a place where men and women are torn between duty and their moral values, husbands and wives conceal the truth from each other and their families, the military keeps secrets from the scientists they chaperone, and the scientists keep secrets from each other. Manhattan” depicts the wonder, danger and deceit that shadowed the first “nuclear” families.

Included among the cast of WGN's 'Manhattan' are John Benjamin Hickey ('The Big C'), Olivia Williams ('Dollhouse'), Daniel Stern ('The Wonder Years'), Ashley Zukerman, Rachel Brosnahan ('House of Cards'), Katja Herbers, Alexia Fast, Christopher Denham, Harry Lloyd, Michael Chernus and Eddie Shin.

'Manhattan' certainly looks like a unique and engaging drama by the trailer, so take a look at WGN's latest original series above, and tell us what you think of the new nuclear family in the comments!
