‘What We Do in the Shadows’ Spinoff Gets a Delightful Title

Director Taika Waititi is at Sundance this week to debut his new indie comedy, Hunt for the Wilderpeople. And while he’s promoting that film, reporters can’t help but ask him about a couple of his other upcoming projects — like Thor: Ragnarok and the What We Do in the Shadows spinoff. Today’s news concerns the latter, as Waititi has suggested the title of the upcoming werewolf-centric spinoff, and it’s quite punny.

Speaking with CraveOnline, Waititi says that he and co-star / writer / director Jemaine Clement are working on writing the spinoff, which would center on the werewolves-not-swear-wolves group led by Rhys Darby. Waititi says it will “most likely be the next thing” he does after completing production on Thor: Ragnarok for Marvel. As for the title, Waititi says, “It’s going to be called ‘We’re Wolves,’ like ‘We are wolves.’ We’re Wolves.”

That’s an absolutely fantastic title, and better than the previously rumored What We Do in the Moonlight, which sounded a bit like a romantic indie.

What We Do in the Shadows was easily the funniest comedy of 2015. A mock-doc centering on a group of vampire roommates preparing for an annual, highly secretive ball, the film was co-written and directed by Waititi and Clement, who both starred in the film as well.

But before he gets around to that spinoff, Waititi is preparing to head into production on Thor: Ragnarok, which hits theaters on November 3, 2017. Could we get two new Taika Waititi films next year?
