Have you ever seen those movie ads on TV filled with gushing quotes from critics and thought to yourself, “I saw that movie; it was terrible. Where did they find these positive reviews?” If you have, you’re not alone — and you’re going to love ScreenCrush’s series, Critics Are Raving!, which balances the cinematic scales with trailers full of slightly more accurate (and slightly more negative) lines from reviews. Real critics. Real quotes. Really bad movies. That’s what’s Critics Are Raving! is all about.
For our 16th episode, it’s time for the first legendary critical bomb of the summer movie season: King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. Critics liked Charlie Hunnam, and a few of director Guy Ritchie’s stylistic touches, but they couldn’t muster much enthusiasm for the rest of this Arthurian reboot, supposedly the first of a six-film series. As of this writing, the film has just a 26 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, which means there were plenty of great (bad) reviews to choose from for our latest Critics Are Raving! video.
