Even a few Game of Thrones fans were left scratching their heads at “Battle of Bastards” winning a 2016 Emmy for Outstanding Writing, but the Outstanding Directing in a Drama win was right on the money. Miguel Sapochnick wins his first Emmy, as Game of Thrones takes home yet another gold at the 2016 Emmys!

This was Sapochnik’s first Emmy win, for which the “Battle of the Bastards” director naturally thanked his family, HBO and all. The win came shortly after Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss won for writing the episode.

Other nominees tonight included Game of Thrones again for “The Door,” along with Downton Abbey, Homeland for “The Tradition of Hospitality,” Ray Donovan for “Exsuscito,” and Cinemax’s The Knick for “This Is All We Are.” Last year, Game of Thrones also won for David Nutter’s direction in “Mother’s Mercy.”
