24 already had its X-Files revival moment with 24: Live Another Day, and FOX seems about ready to start a whole new chapter with 24: Legacy. As such, our new Jack Bauer has already arrived, as Straight Outta Compton and The Walking Dead star Corey Hawkins takes the lead role of the new series.

Per FOX’s official announcement, Hawkins will play the lead role of Eric Carter, former Army Ranger and military hero returning to the U.S. with “trouble that follows him back — compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.” The character is described as strong and smart, coming from a rough background, as well that “Now back home in Virginia with his wife Nicole, he’s pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him.”

The series will also center on a female ex-head of the CTU, leading a new iteration bent on thwarting “the potential to activate new sleeper cells in the United States and radicalizing Americans.” None of the original 24 stars are expected to take part just yet, while Kiefer Sutherland himself is in talks to produce.

24: Legacy will maintain many of the series distinctive elements, though like Live Another Day, is expected to run for 12 episodes, rather than 24, should it move to series. Whatever it means for Hawkins’ role on The Walking Dead, is the new 24 sounding any better without Jack Bauer?
