‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′ Adds Jamie Foxx as Electro!

‘Amazing Spider-Man 2‘ has a new love interest (Shailene Woodley was cast as Mary Jane Watson) and now has found its villain with an Oscar-winner on board to play one of Spidey’s oldest foes, Electro.
Jamie Foxx, star of the upcoming ‘Django Unchained‘ and Oscar-winner for his role in ‘Ray,’ is in talks with Sony Pictures to star as Electro/Maxwell Dillon in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2.’ Electro had widely been believed to be the main villain in the film after the post-credits scene heavily featured lightning. The actor just tweeted:
Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well.

What will surely be controversial for some, Foxx is an African-American actor playing a white character for the comics. (This should hardly be a controversy and was done previously with Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin in ‘Daredevil.’)
Electro first appeared in “The Amazing Spider-Man #9″ in 1964. The character was repairing a power line when he was struck by lightning and found himself with the ability to control electricity. He was approached by Magneto (of the X-Men universe) to join the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants but would eventually join up with the Sinister Six; Spider-Man’s most feared foes including Vulture, Kraven, Doctor Octopus, Mysterio and Sandman.
In addition to Electro and Mary Jane, producers are looking to cast a younger actor to star as Harry Osborn, the eventual Green Goblin.
The script was written by James Vanderbilt and Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (‘Star Trek’). ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′ is set to hit theaters in 3D on May 2, 2014.
