‘Anchorman’: The TV Series? NBC Orders Astronaut Comedy from Will Ferrell and Adam McKay

Fans of Will Ferrell‘s Ron Burgundy return in ‘Anchorman: The Legend Continues‘ might still count themselves surprised a sequel finally got of the ground, but could the same brand of humor land on TV? NBC wants to put a man on the moon with a new ‘Anchorman‘-style comedy about the 1962 space race, direct from Ferrell and director Adam McKay themselves!

Before you blast off into space at the prospect of an ‘Anchorman’ TV series however, keep in mind that Ferrell and McKay would only executive produce NBC’s new pilot project, dubbed ‘Mission Control,’ and described as “A workplace ensemble in the tone of Anchorman examines what happens when a strong woman butts heads with a macho astronaut in the race to land on the moon.”

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘ star and producer David Hornsby will act as showrunner on the pilot episode of ‘Mission Control,’ which had apparently once been pitched for a feature film, before finally landing on TV. Of course, the pilot order is no guarantee of success, nor that ‘Mission Control’ would accurately represent the comedy stylings of ‘Anchorman’ or Will Ferrell though we imagine the series could coast pretty far on the name recognition alone. And hey, David Koechner doesn’t seem to have outgrown the occasional TV appearance!

What do you think? Could NBC’s latest keep ‘Anchorman’ fans satisfied until the inevitable third installment, or is ‘Mission Control’ just a literal/figurative shot in the dark?
