In addition to providing motion capture support on Avengers: Age of Ultron, we’ve known for some time that Andy Serkis would also have a live-action part in the film. Serkis’ role in the film has remained mysterious since production began, although it’s been speculated for a while that he’s playing Black Panther villain Ulysses Klaw. You can officially stop speculating now because Serkis himself has delivered confirmation.

During last night’s Empire Awards (via Uproxx), Serkis finally confirmed what we’ve long suspected to be true: yes, he’s playing Ulysses Klaw in the upcoming Avengers sequel.

Well, I think I can absolutely confirm it’s Ulysses Klaw now because I think the news is out. I sort of noticed that people on the red carpets sort of knew that I was Ulysses Klaw, so I thought ‘It must be out then.’ It was [a really minimal role], but I just loved doing it. It’s a great character.

Given the rather large number of characters in Avengers: Age of Ultron, it’s understandable that Serkis won’t have much screen time, but it’s always a joy to see the actor play a live-action role. Klaw is known as an enemy of Black Panther, but he’s also fought against the Avengers in the comics. Perhaps his appearance in Age of Ultron hints at Serkis reprising the role for the solo Black Panther movie? It’s possible:

That, I know nothing about. I truly don’t know anything about that. I know that they’ve just announced the Black Panther movie, but I don’t know anything about it.

Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1.
