How 'Avengers 2' Director Joss Whedon Helped Save 'Thor 2'Nick Romano |
Though Joss Whedon is busy working on the script for 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron' and has admittedly been conceptualizing his sequel for some time, he still answered the call when 'Thor: The Dark World' director Alan Taylor was in trouble. According to Taylor, Whedon came in to save some major issues he was having with the film.
In the latest issue of SFX, featuring the 'Thor' sequel, Taylor revealed that the man behind 'The Avengers' came on the set in London to rewrite select scenes from the film.
Joss came in to save our lives a couple of times. We had a major scene that was not working on the page at all in London, and he basically got airlifted in, like a SWAT team or something. He came down, rewrote the scene, and before he got back to his plane I sort of grabbed him and said, "And this scene and this scene?" And he rewrote two other scenes that I thought had problems. Then finally we let go of him, he took off again, and we shot the scenes; and they were just much better and much lighter on their feet.
Though Taylor has mostly kept to the background with press events for 'Thor 2,' he's received a lot of praise from the set about his directing abilities, and this showcases how quickly and efficiently he's able to remedy a situation. Taylor's background is filled with glamorous TV credits, including 'Game of Thrones,' 'Boardwalk Empire,' 'Nurse Jackie' and 'Mad Men,' and 'Thor 2' is his first major blockbuster. Though he's adding another major credit to his resume -- directing 'Terminator 5' -- and some of his 'Thor' buzz was said to have helped solidify this gig.
'Thor: The Dark World' brings back Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander and more for a new adventure involving the ancient race of Dark Elves, led by the villainous Malekith (Christopher Eccleston), who seek to throw the galaxy into darkness. The film is set for release on November 8.
