The current motto at Marvel Studios must be “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it” because the company behind the biggest franchise of the past decade has once again hired screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely to pen one of their films. Actually, they’ve been technically hired to pen two films, since Avengers: Infinity War will be split into two halves and released in 2018 and 2019. Trivia: Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely do not sleep..

The news to us comes via Deadline, who confirm that the duo will be penning both Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2.

Markus and McFeely got their start in the Marvel machine with their screenplay for Captain America: The First Avenger, but they really solidified their position in the company with their work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier (they’re also on the laundry list of names credited for writing Thor: The Dark World). They’ve already turned in their screenplay for Captain America: Civil War, which began filming this week, so it was only natural that they took approximately three seconds off before taking the reins of what is probably going to be the biggest superhero movie of all time.

The only folks on the creative end of things who will have more influence over Marvel’s Phase Three are Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who are currently filming Captain America: Civil War and will jump onto Infinity War after taking a three-second break of their own. It’s hard to argue with Marvel’s logic here – how do you not hire the guys responsible for some of the best movies in the MCU to keep this whole enterprise on course?

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 will hit theaters on May 4, 2018 and the sequel will arrive a year later on May 3, 2019.
