Benicio Del Toro’s Mysterious ‘Last Jedi’ Character Kicks Back in New Photo
The Last Jedi is introducing a bunch of new characters in the Star Wars universe, one of which is Benicio Del Toro’s mystery man “DJ.” He’s described as extremely morally gray, one of those people who acts in their own self interest first before considering what might happen to the other people around them (if they even consider that at all). He’s a “slicer,” the Star Wars term for a hacker, and in a few of the trailers it certainly looks like he’ll be involved in the Resistance’s big infiltration of the First Order.
A new photo from Empire shows how literally laid-back DJ is, as he lounges on a couch in some futuristic-looking room.
"This character could come straight out of a Bob Dylan or Tom Waits song, or even a Dostoyevsky novel,” Del Toro explained to Empire, confirming that I personally will definitely have a giant crush on this guy in the movie, whoever he turns out to be.
“He’s like something out of Dickens,” he said. “There have been characters like him in all kinds of literature. He’s like a knife: if you grab him by the blade, he’ll cut you. If you grab him by the handle, he can be very, very useful.”
Since the current Star Wars trilogy doesn’t seem to have a Han Solo equivalent yet (now that, uh, spoiler, Han is very dead), and no space opera is complete without a roguish, morally ambiguous character to help out our heroes a bit before he goes on his merry way, DJ seems to be that guy for The Last Jedi.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15.
