San Diego Comic-Con is just a few (very short) days away, but if you can’t wait until this weekend for all the goods from the Warner Bros. panel, a new report has shed some light on one of the studio’s most anticipated upcoming releases: Birds of Prey. The latest details to emerge from Margot Robbie’s female-centric DC Comics spinoff reveal a few of the other characters who will be fighting alongside Harley Quinn — and offers a hint as to who exactly they’ll be up against.

Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn became an instant fan-favorite when she made her debut in the otherwise underwhelming Suicide Squad. WB and DC Films took note, and it wasn’t long before Robbie began plotting potential spinoff projects to star in and produce — including Birds of Prey, which sees Harley Quinn teaming up with other female DC villains.

In addition to Robbie’s Harley Quinn, The Wrap reports that Birds of Prey will feature Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, and Renee Montoya. That’s a pleasantly unexpected ensemble, and one that side-steps the obvious choices like Catwoman and Poison Ivy. For those unfamiliar with the DC characters:

Black Canary, aka Dinah Laurel inherited the vigilante gig and moniker from her mom, the original Black Canary. Her dad was also a cop, so Dinah was immersed in crime-fighting from an early age.

Huntress, aka Helena Bertinelli, is an Italian-American vigilante in Gotham City who’s proud of her heritage. She was inspired to turn to a life of crime-fighting when her entire family was murdered.

Cassandra Cain is the daughter of two assassins who bred and raised her to become the world’s greatest killer. She has exceptional martial arts skills.

Renee Montoya is a Gotham City detective who works under Commissioner Gordon. She’s a frequent ally to Batman and is openly gay — a detail that will hopefully not be erased in the movie.

The Wrap adds that the main antagonist in Birds of Prey will be a Batman villain who has not yet appeared in any of the movies, so feel free to start speculating.

Cathy Yan will direct Birds of Prey from a screenplay by Christina Hodson, who is also writing the Batgirl movie. No release date has been set at this time, but with production looking to begin in January and Comic-Con kicking off in a few days, we’re sure to learn more about Birds of Prey by week’s end.
