Last night's 'Boardwalk Empire' finale "Margate Sands" was notably light on major character deaths, but certaily packed a lot of punch to wrap up the season. Still, with another year gone by in Atlantic City, what might be on deck for the fourth season? Will Nucky Thompson have another major villain to face? Are there any characters from last night's finale that didn't actually die after all? Will the booze and blood still flow?

After last night's Harrow-ing (heh) 'Boardwalk Empire' finale "Margate Sands," certain character fates were left somewhat ambiguous. No longer, as series creator Terence Winter clarified a few lingering points about the finale, and previewed what's to come for Nucky and the gang in 'Boardwalk Empire' season 4.

For one, Winter clarified to a number of outlets that Gretchen Mol's Gillian Darmody indeed survived her heroin injection from Gyp Rosetti, and will return in the coming season despite her last appearance being relatively incoherent. More than that, Kelly MacDonald (Margaret) will still be a part of the show, despite seemingly rejecting Nucky's attempts at reconciliation.

But what of 'Boardwalk Empire' season 4? Winter claims that viewers can expect another time-jump, taking the story into 1924, often seen as the year gangsters like Lucky Luciano and Al Capone truly came into their own. And don't worry about the finale's lack of Michael Shannon, who will have much more to do as a member of Capone's crew next year. So too will Nucky himself, who creates his own gang in the wake of rejecting his more public persona.

What say you? Are you relieved that most of the major characters survived the 'Boardwalk Empire' season 3 finale? What do you hope to see in season 4? Give us your thoughts in the comments!
