‘Captain America 3’ Villain Confirmed as Baron Zemo?
Captain America and Iron Man won’t be the only ones brawling in ‘Captain America 3’. While the juiciest part of ‘Civil War’ will surely be seeing the two (former?) Avengers squaring off against each other, there are still going to be some common villains they’ll have to deal with. For one, the Winter Soldier is still on the loose. For another, so is Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones. And, as if it couldn’t get more difficult, Cap will also have to deal with yet another villain. Daniel Bruhl (‘Rush’) signed on to star in the film back in November and now comes some confirmation that he’ll be playing classic comic villain Baron Zemo.
Now this confirmation didn’t come directly from Marvel, or an official press release, so there is still some margin for error, but a ‘Captain America 3’ casting call lists Bruhl as playing Baron Zemo. This matches us with who we initially speculated Bruhl would be playing when the news was announced.
Baron Heinrich Zemo is one of Captain America’s primary antagonists in the comic books; a Nazi scientist fond of creating death rays that would be used to destroy the world. He wears a purple cowl, which was permanently stuck to his face after Captain America raided his laboratory, resulting in an explosion of “Adhesive X”. He’s a great Cap villain, but how he’ll make his way from the 1940s to present day remains to be seen. (If we had to guess, Zemo will be seen primarily in flashbacks, as the person responsible for turning Bucky Barnes into the Winter Soldier, while Crossbones remains our present day villain.)
Anthony Mackie recently said that ‘Captain America 3’ was shaping up to be like ‘Avengers 3.8’ and we can see what he means with this cast lined up. The film already will feature Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Black Panther and Falcon. Plus, Crossbones, Winter Soldier and Baron Zemo? That’s one hell of a lineup for a superhero movie that isn’t ‘The Avengers’.
'Captain America: Civil War' opens in theaters on May 6, 2016.
