Right before Comic-Con 2014, rumor had it that Marvel wanted Joaquin Phoenix to play the leading role in their 'Doctor Strange' film -- which was some pretty magical timing, all things considered. Since then, we haven't heard a peep, and now comes word that the studio has their eye on another possible leading man: 'Boardwalk Empire' star Jack Huston, whom you might not recognize unless he's missing half of his face.

This Is Infamous reports that Jack Huston is the latest name on the ever-growing roster of rumored contenders to take the role of Sorcerer Supreme in the 'Doctor Strange' film, which is being helmed by 'Sinister' director Scott Derrickson. If nothing else, this is a pretty interesting rumor and one of the more compelling choices for the part.

Huston's work on 'Boardwalk Empire' as Richard Harrow was phenomenal, proving that he could do a lot with some real limitations. The guy has some serious acting muscles. While we'd still be very interested to see what someone like Joaquin Phoenix could do with the role, Huston would make a fine consolation prize.

As a bonus, he's not very well-known, which means he's not as high in demand as some of the other names that have been floated, like Phoenix himself, Justin Theroux, and Benedict Cumberbatch -- so the likelihood that he could commit for multiple Marvel films is greater. And if we're being honest here, is serious thespian Joaquin Phoenix going to commit to multiple Marvel appearances? Our money's on a guy like Huston who has the chops, but not as much exposure .... yet.

While it's still a rumor at this stage and Huston is likely only being considered (meaning there's no real offer yet), it's a possibility that's definitely rather appealing.
