The 50th anniversary special of 'Doctor Who' is fast approaching, and though "The Day of the Doctor" will mark one step closer to Matt Smith's departure from the series at the end of 2013, we can't wait to see Doctors old and new together for the first time. In order to get the timey-wimey countdown rolling, the BBC has released the first photos from the 75-minute special, putting Matt Smith and David Tennant's Doctors together at last!

Though it would be difficult to say for sure what the "Day of the Doctor" photos reveal, we at least get to see Tennant and Smith's 10th and 11th Doctors together with John Hurt's still-mysterious "Dark Doctor," as well as Clara Oswald (Jenna-Louise Coleman) and the returning Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave). Smith seems particularly troubled dangling from the TARDIS, while the Dark Doctor keeps his Sonic Screwdriver close to the chest on a bandolier.

Hopefully the BBC will soon rerun the fantastic Comic-Con trailer for the special, which hits the airwaves on November 23. The landmark anniversary special will run for a full 75 minutes, while the 23rd will also see the airing of a special by Professor Brian Cox on BBC Two about the science behind the show, coupled with ‘Sherlock‘ star Mark Gatiss’ ‘Doctor Who’ origins movie, ‘An Adventure in Space and Time.’

No looks at the Daleks, Zygons, Billie Piper or any other returning special guests, but check out the first photos from 'Doctor Who' 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" below, and give us your predictions for the globally simulcast event in the comments!
