Just when you thought the 'Doctor Who' 50th anniversary simulcast of "The Day of the Doctor" was exciting enough with the return of David Tennant, yet another past 'Doctor Who' star returns in the first official minisode setting up the event, "The Night of the Doctor"!

While you're better off watching the minisode for yourself before reading further, it seems we've been given a bit of misdirect after all toward which past Doctors would make an appearance in the landmark 50th anniversary special. For you see, while Christopher Eccleston remains a holdout, Paul McGann returns to finish his work as the Eighth Doctor, showing us his transformation into "The War Doctor" (John Hurt) the others would later try to forget!

Meanwhile, here's how the BBC describes the upcoming special:

The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in this 50th anniversary special. In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.

November 23 will also see the airing of a special by Professor Brian Cox on BBC Two about the science behind the show, coupled with ‘Sherlock‘ star Mark Gatiss’ ‘Doctor Who’ origins movie, ‘An Adventure in Space and Time.’ “The Day of the Doctor” itself will also be simulcast globally, and released in select US theaters for a 3D broadcast.

See how it all began with the fan-satisfying minisode "The Night of the Doctor" above, and stay tuned for the latest from the upcoming 50th anniversary special!
