Though perhaps without as much fanfare as expected, the 'Doctor Who' 50th anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" came and went this past weekend, uniting all the series stars together to celebrate the franchise. We won't be long for new 'Doctor Who' however, as the first look at Matt Smith's Christmas special swan song has arrived!

The 2013 Christmas special as yet lacks an official title, though we know that Matt Smith will abdicate his role as the 11th Doctor to Peter Capaldi, who made a brief cameo in the 50th Anniversary special. The first teaser for the effort runs relatively brief, but previews a plot point even more terrifying than Daleks, Cybermen, Weeping Angels and The Silence: a return to the Doctor's burial ground at Trenzalore!

Elsewhere, it seems we finally have an answer to those mysterious past Doctor protests observed filming outside of BBC headquarters in advance of the specials, as a number of past series stars returned for faux-documentary special "The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot." in the short, past 'Doctor Who' incarnations Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy and Colin Baker vie with Steven Moffat for a part in the special, revisiting the entirety of franchise history along the way.

We'll bring you the latest from the 'Doctor Who' 2013 Christmas special as it arrives, but in the meantime, continue the celebration in the teaser above, and tell us in the comments how you want the 11th (or 12th, now?) Doctor to meet his end?
