As tends to be the case with 'Doctor Who' regenerations, the 2013 Christmas special "The Time of the Doctor" only afforded us the briefest of glimpses at Peter Capaldi's 12th incarnation before crashing into its usual cliffhanger. At the time, Capaldi still wore the 11th Doctor Matt Smith's duds, but the BBC has seen fit to grace us with a first look at the new "rebel" 'Doctor Who''s costume!

It turns out that Matt Smith's deliberate bowtie removal just prior to regeneration will stick, as the new 'Doctor Who' duds eschew any form of neckwear from Peter Capaldi's minimalist ensemble. Capaldi himself says of the costume change, “He's woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.”

Capaldi wasn't the only 'Who' head with an opinion on the change, as showrunner Steven Moffat contributes “New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over - Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!” Meanwhile, filming for the eighth series has already begun (teasing those anxious for a look at the costume with Peter Capaldi on horseback in a nightshirt), for a likely fall premiere.

Well, what do we think? Does Peter Capaldi's 'Doctor Who' look to be the back-to-basics bad-ass the showrunners promise? See for yourself below, and give us your thoughts in the comments!
