Given that 'Falling Skies' just recently started shooting its third season, due to arrive in the summer of 2013, casting announcements and new details are skittering around just about everywhere.  Earlier today we reported a few very cool bits of casting in both a former 'House' star and one of Noah Wyle's former 'ER' co-stars, but the latest news might be the coolest yet for sci-fi fans.  A major movement performer is joining the ranks, known for roles in 'Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer' and 'Hellboy,' but who is this mystery man, and what's his 'Falling Skies' role?

In addition to today's earlier news that former 'House star Robert Sean Leonard and Noah Wyle's one-time 'ER' co-star Gloria Reuben will join the cast of TNT's sci-fi actioner 'Falling Skies' season 3, at least one more performer will surf his way onto set.  Show-runner Remi Aubuchon first tweeted the news that 'Hellboy' and 'Fantastic 4' sequel star Doug Jones will join the cast as well, though you might not know it to look at him.

Jones will portray the mysterious alien seen in the last moments of 'Falling Skies' season 2 finale "A More Perfect Union," who suddenly appeared before the 2nd Massachusetts and Charleston survivors after a number of ships descended from the sky.  It isn't clear if Jones will portray all members of the new species (there were multiple ships, even if we only met one), or if the creatures will be brought to life with Jones' CG capture, make-up and prosthetics, or a mix of both.

Much of Jones' past work involves a physical presence, as in his on-set portrayals of 'Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surver's titular alien, as well as Abe Sapien and the Angel of Death from the 'Hellboy' films.  'Frasier' star David Hyde Pierce famously voiced Sapien in the first film alongside Jones' physical performance, declining credit out of respect.  For the second film, Jones himself provided the voice.

So, what do we think?  Will Jones' new alien role prove to be friend or foe for 'Falling Skies' season 3?  Tell us what you think will happen to the 2nd Mass. in the comments!
