We've been so long without any fresh 'Louie' that we've almost forgotten the series will make its glorious return in 2014, but FX has today taken a step to ensure its audience will never lack for autobiographical standup comedy. Comedian D.L. Hughley has closed a deal to write, executive producer and star in his own semi-autobiographical comedy series on FX, but can 'Louie''s success be duplicated?

Deadline first revealed the news of Hughley's impending comedy series, which will draw its base from the comedian's own life as "an unapologetically honest family man and radio host." In particular, Hughley has maintained a marriage for 25 years with three children, balancing standup, radio shows and his work with the Original Kings of Comedy.

Hughley will co-write the script for the FX series with Sivert Glarum and Michael Jamin, of 'Brickleberry' fame. All three will act as executive producers under 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg and Dave Becky of FX productions.

Considering the potential viability of 'Louie' following the comedian's 2014 return to FX, we can't say we're surprised to see the network keeping its standup quotient high among the original programming. The network also recently afforded 'Community' star, rapper and comic Donald Glover his own series, somewhat based on the actor's background with the Atlanta music scene.

Well, what say you? Do you think D.L. Hughley's own sitcom will live up to 'Louie?' Check out some of his standup below, and give us your thoughts in the comments!
