FX Renews ‘Wilfred’ For Season 3, Minus Show-Runner David Zuckerman
Hooray, doggie bones and bongs for everyone! Up until now we'd been somewhat nervous about the fate of FX's critically-adored surrealist drama 'Wilfred,' after the network aired its second season finale without news of a guarantee for the third. Today we've learned for certain that the Elijah Wood/Jason Gann man's best friend comedy has indeed fetched another year, but what shake-up is in store? Will 'Wilfred' have a different bite for season 3?
Good news for fans of FX's pot-smoking dog comedy 'Wilfred,' as the network has officially announced that both Ryan (Elijah Wood) and his best anthropomorphic canine pal Wilfred (Jason Gann) will return for a third season of 13 episodes in 2013. However, show-runner and executive producer David Zuckerman will step down from his position of show-runner, staying on as EP.
Instead, Reed Agnew and Eli Jorné have been promoted to the roles of show-runners and executive producers, having written and produced the first two seasons. So why the shake-up, and the wait for renewal considering 'Wilfred's second season wrapped in September? Says EVP of Original Programming for FX Nick Grad:
As John (Landgraf) said at the summer TCA, it was only a matter of time before we picked up the show, we just had to work some things out. David Zuckerman has done an amazing job adapting and reconceiving 'Wilfred' for FX.
It was his decision to step down from the show-runner's post, but we're very happy he is going to stay involved with the show. Both we and David have great faith in the ability of Reed and Eli to seamlessly step up and take over the reins. I have no doubt they'll do a great job.
What say you? Is your tail wagging for a third season of 'Wilfred?' What celebrity guest stars would you like to see for the third season, now that season 2 star Allison Mack has departed?
