The lack of characters like Rey and Black Widow in Star Wars and Marvel merchandising has inspired fans to start hashtags to hopefully force Disney to make more toys and action figures featuring these beloved leading ladies. While we wait for the folks at Disney to come to their senses, Paul Feig is ensuring we’ll never have to ask where any of his Ghostbusters are, as he’s revealed action figure prototypes for all four of the lead actors in his upcoming film. Yep, soon you can buy Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon and Melissa McCarthy action figures. What a time to be alive!

Feig dropped the image on his Twitter account last night, boasting Mattel’s six-inch action figures of all four ladies — and it’s enough to give you goosebumps of the joyful variety:

In addition, Feig reveals that these figures will be sold separately, and Mattel will offer different “types,” implying that we’ll see different sizes and kinds of figures / toys from the company — maybe even some Barbie dolls? We can dream!

Feig also says that other companies are making their own Ghostbusters figures, including Funko and Diamond Select (for those grown-ups with a little more cash to spare):

The director says the figures have been in production for months and we can also look forward to some fun LEGO sets.

Meanwhile, although there are a few officially licensed Rey and Black Widow toys, the amount pales in comparison to the merch boasting their male counterparts, with many play sets and variety packs notably leaving out the women in favor of including lesser supporting characters who just happen to be dudes.

More recently, Hasbro came under fire for not including Rey — a central character in The Force Awakens — in a new Star Wars Monopoly set, though the company quickly apologized following the backlash and promised to include Rey in a future set.

The bottom line is that there shouldn’t be a need for backlash to begin with. If studios like Disney simply considered their large female fan base and made these toys in the first place, there wouldn’t be a problem. They should also consider that perhaps boys are also fans of these female characters and that it’s good for kids to see both genders represented in their toys.

The new Ghostbusters toys don’t appear as though they’ll be strictly marketed to girls, which is another lesson studios should take to heart: stop teaching kids that certain types of media and toys are gender-exclusive. It’s beyond old now.
