"Hold your horses," we thought, unintentionally connecting the latest bit of 'Girls' gossip to the HBO series' oft-mentioned association with 'Sex and the City.' However controversial the first season of the Judd Apatow / Lena Dunham-produced HBO drama 'Girls' may have been, fans of the series still eagerly await the coming of its second season in early 2013. Imagine our surprise then to learn that its producers are already assured of 'Girls' season 3! Is there truth to the rumor, or are we being jerked around by 'Girls'?

'Girls' fans may yet have reason to rejoice, even before the long-awaited second season of HBO's hipster-y female drama returns for a second season on January 13. According to comedy magnate and executive producer Judd Apatow, he and series creator and star Lena Dunham have already begun work on a third season, with permission to shoot from HBO.

Apatow announced the upcoming shoot during an interview with The DP/30 Channel (at 34:35) for his upcoming film 'This Is 40,' adding "we’re trading scripts back and forth. I get inspired by reading her work every week.” Reps for HBO have yet to officially confirm the show's third season, as Vulture found the network would only admit, "We’re looking forward to the launch of season 2 and hope to have good news shortly thereafter."
