Back in January, a (literally) huge villain was rumored for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, while a subsequent report on the new characters joining James Gunn’s follow-up hinted at a more intriguing possibility. The latest scoop on Marvel’s intergalactic sequel doubles down on one of those rumors by potentially revealing the identity of Elizabeth Debicki’s character — if true, it opens the door for another major comic book character to appear.

In addition to their report on Hulk’s role in Thor: Ragnarok, JoBlo claims to have confirmed at least one new character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which supports an earlier rumor from March: The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’s Elizabeth Debicki is playing the role of Ayesha, aka Kismet, aka Paragon, aka Her. But according to the latest report, not only is Debicki playing Ayesha, she’ll also be the sequel’s primary villain.

Some background on Ayesha: A quartet of power-hungry scientists known as The Enclave created the world’s first genetically perfect beings in an effort to reboot mankind. First there was Him, a male specimen that escaped and became known as Adam Warlock. Then there was Her, aka Paragon, but she also rejected her makers and escaped to outer space where she eventually became known as Ayesha.

Despite abandoning The Enclave, Ayesha still believes that Adam Warlock is her genetic soulmate, and winds up on a quest to find him so they can mate and create a new race of perfect beings. That’s the comic book version, anyway.

Gunn has said that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 isn’t staying faithful to the comics when it comes to the identity of Star-Lord’s dad, played by Kurt Russell — which means Adam Warlock is definitely not his father, but if Ayesha comes into play, then that does open the door for Warlock (or a similarly inspired version) to appear. Then again, neither Gunn nor the MCU have strictly adhered to the source material, and while Ayesha may very well be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and while she could very well be the villain, it’s possible that some of this background has been altered.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
