It's superhero news mania over at Comic-Con 2014, and ahead of tomorrow's official Marvel Studios panel in Hall H comes word that director James Gunn will indeed be returning to write and direct a 'Guardians of the Galaxy' sequel -- as if it could happen any other way.

Although 'Guardians of the Galaxy' doesn't hit theaters until August 1, it looks like Marvel is already moving full-steam ahead with a sequel. We've heard rumors swirling, but The Wrap brings us a slightly more official confirmation via their interview with original 'Guardians' screenwriter Nicole Perlman. Perlman says that Gunn is definitely returning to both write and direct 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2.'

Marvel has yet to make an official announcement regarding the sequel, but we expect that might change at their Comic-Con panel tomorrow. The studio has also recently lined up six release dates for untitled films, and we're betting the 'Guardians' sequel is one of them. There have also been rumors swirling of an on-screen team-up between the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and the 'Avengers' for 'Avengers 3,' while Gunn recently dismissed the notion of a 'Planet Hulk' film.

We'll bring you more updates tomorrow from the official Marvel Studios panel in Hall H at Comic-Con 2014 -- it's sure to be pretty spectacular.
