'Happy Endings' and 'Apartment 23' Future: What Will ABC Decide?Kevin Fitzpatrick |
Though ABC has had much more high-profile ratings issues this season, particularly the cancellations of both freshman dramas 'Last Resort' and '666 Park Avenue,' fans still eagerly await news of both critical darlings 'Happy Endings' and 'Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23.' Neither have improved significantly in the ratings, with some worried that ABC is looking to burn off episodes with additional Sunday episodes, but what does ABC itself have to say? Find out the fate of ABC's comedies inside!
Fans of both ABC comedies 'Happy Endings' and 'Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23' needn't worry about either show's cancellation just yet. While both remain fairly on the bubble, currently airing both Sunday and Tuesday nights without scoring much higher than a 1.4 in the 18-49 demographic the night of airing, ABC president Paul Lee remains optimistic about the future.
“We love those two shows. They are watercooler shows. They are really well-written," said Lee at the TCA press tour. "We think they have a chance to grow [on Tuesday],” justifying the Sunday airings “to raise sampling.” “We haven’t made any decisions [on their next seasons],” he went on, “but I can tell you these are shows that we love.”
In particular, both series have faced challenges in the current season from the 2012 elections and Hurricane Sandy, as well as intense competition from strong comedy blocks at Fox and NBC. 'Happy Endings' has consistently been noted to fare better regardless.
