The imminent arrival of Game of Thrones Season 5 has literary creator George R.R. Martin racing to finish sixth novel The Winds of Winter, but TV may have placed yet another obstacle in his path. Martin will have a hand in developing a new HBO sci-fi period drama Captain Cosmos, with another writer already on board.

Buried in a new Entertainment Weekly interview espousing Martin’s hurry to finish the sixth novel, the outlet reveals that the famous author has also begun work on a period drama pitch with Z Nation writer Michael Cassutt. This isn’t the first we’ve heard of Martin’s development deals outside Game of Thrones, though at least the first real details of Captain Cosmos, and its focus:

At the dawn of the age of TV in 1949, a visionary young writer creates a science fiction series that tells stories no one else will dare to tell.

EW specifies that the project wouldn’t necessarily take up too much of his time, suggesting that Martin’s role would be in a largely producing capacity. Martin also recently revealed a new Sansa-centric chapter of The Winds of Winter, which aims to be complete before Game of Thrones Season 6 airs in 2016, but could HBO have another George R.R. Martin hit on its hands?
