Bittersweet thought it was to learn that John Oliver would leave 'The Daily Show' behind, his first original series, 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver' on HBO, seems like a fine start. Well, sort of. Check out the first trailer for Oliver's news program, as the befuddled host lays out its confusing premise!

Premiering on Sunday, April 27 at 11:00 p.m., 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver' will satirically recount the previous week's news, as the charming former 'Daily Show' correspondent and 'Community' star attempts to explain in HBO's first-look trailer. It may not have the timeliness of Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert, but 'Last Week Tonight' should hopefully stand on its own in the pantheon of late-night news sendups.

Few details were available of the series at the time of its November announcement, though HBO described ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’ to present “a satirical look at news, politics and current events.” Oliver himself said of the initial news break, “I’m incredibly excited to be joining HBO, especially as I presume this means I get free HBO now.”

Well, what do you think? Is John Oliver's new series worth staying up late Sunday night to catch? Check out the first preview of 'Last Week Tonight' above, and give us your thoughts in the comments!
