This past week we've seen HBO get its house on order for 2014, declaring 'True Blood' to air its final season next summer while negotiations continue on returning Aaron Sorkin to 'The Newsroom' for another cycle. Now, one of HBO's big-ticket 2014 items has been given a firm premiere, as the Matthew McConaughey-Woody Harrelson starring 'True Detective' will arrive in January, with a full trailer this Sunday!

Via Deadline, the mini-series crime procedural will formally debut its eight-episode first season on HBO this January, though the network wouldn't offer a firmer date. We'd likely expect the buzzworthy premiere to have some tie to the third season of 'Girls,' given how HBO tends to vary its crowd-pleasers with more serious fare. Following the past teaser, 'True Detective' will also present its first trailer this Sunday with the season 4 premiere of 'Boardwalk Empire.'

Starring a much less gaunt-looking McConaughey and Harrelson, ‘True Detective’ follows two detectives, Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson), whose lives intertwine during a 17-year hunt for a Louisiana serial killer. Their investigation of a gruesome murder in 1995 will be intercut with testimony from the detectives in 2012, when the case was reopened. Each new season of the drama will feature new characters and a new central mystery.

In the meantime, check out the original teaser for 'True Detective' below ('True Blood' without the music, no?), and tell us in the comments if you'll check out the January premiere!
