The prospect of 'How I Met Your Mother' fans finally meeting the woman in question has become something of a running joke with each finale, though the stakes have never been higher as series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have teased a major change for the unexpected ninth and final season ahead. Previews of next week's finale have scarcely shown even an ounce of Barney and Robin's wedding, said to be when the titular meeting takes place, but series star Alyson Hannigan may have confirmed the mother's presence in "Something New."

"I had always thought that the last shot of the whole series was going to be the reveal of the mother," Hannigan said during an appearance on 'The Late Show with David Letterman.' "And, without CBS coming and killing me, I just want to say that I’m glad I didn’t bet on that." Speaking with reporters earlier this year, Thomas previewed that the new season would feel strikingly different from the others, so much so that “it’s going to be a new way to tell the story. You’re never going to mistake a season 9 episode from one of the previous eight.”
