So many fan theories fall completely apart when subjected to even the smallest bit of scrutiny. But once in a while, they turn out to be true. At the Spider-Man: Homecoming junket last weekend, newly-minted Peter Parker Tom Holland confirmed to HuffPost that a far-fetched theory about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Peter Parker’s role in it, is actually legit and can now be considered part of the MCU canon.

The theory involves a small beat during the climax of Iron Man 2, where a kid in Iron Man toy armor, attempts to stop one of the bad guy’s killer drones. Right as he’s about to be obliterated, the real Iron Man swoops in and saves the day, and then gives credit to his sidekick for the kill. (“Nice work, kid!”)

As the theory goes, this little tyke is a very young Peter Parker. The timing works; there was six years between Iron Man 2 and Captain America: Civil War, and Peter’s only about 15 in the new films. Plus the Stark Expo where this scene takes place is in Queens, which is Peter’s hometown. Peter and Tony have a father-son (or at least big brother-little brother) dynamic in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and this would be an awesome bit of foreshadowing for that.

Still, Spider-Man was still firmly in Sony’s full control back in 2010. Surely Marvel couldn’t have planted this seed way back when?

Except, apparently, they did. Per Holland:

I can confirm that as of today. I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I’ve just done a big, old spoiler, but it’s out there now. It’s cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning.

That Kevin Feige, dude. He is like a mad genius or something. Spider-Man: Homecoming, featuring the stars of Iron Man 2, opens in theaters on July 7.
