Looks like there was an accident on the set of 'Iron Man 3' and Robert Downey Jr. hurt his ankle. Marvel has released a statement letting everyone know there will be a delay on the filming, but they think it will be kept to a minimum.

Here's Marvel's statement:

Robert Downey Jr. sustained an ankle injury on the set of Iron Man 3 in Wilmington, North Carolina while performing a stunt. There will be a short delay in the production schedule while he recuperates.

That sucks for the production, but it sounds like this won't effect the film's May 3, 2013 release date. As we're not working on the film, we can't tell you how much left there is to shoot, and what can be shot around Downey's absence and/or possible cast. That's likely what everyone involved with the film is figuring out right now.

If it does move, well, it's been a year filled with rescheduled pictures, and it's possible that Marvel will swap dates with another film if need be. The first week of May has been a lucky charm for them ('Iron Man' and its sequel, 'The Avengers'), so our guess is they'll be working as hard as possible to make their release date.
