Mark Wahlberg recently floated the concept of taking over the role of Tony Stark in the 'Iron Man'/'Avengers' films when Robert Downey, Jr. is (eventually) through with the gig. Can you picture Marky Mark donning the iron armor?

To be clear, this isn't a "thing" that is happening. At least, not at the moment. We all know that RDJ is locked in for at least two more 'Avengers' films, which should keep him wearing the suit until at least 2018. That's a long way off, but it's worth noting that the actor will be in his early 50s by the time 'The Avengers 3' comes out. Sooner or later, he's going to hang it up.

As with all superheros, 'Iron Man' will live on long after the actor who portrays him has gone on to other things. Somebody else will have to tackle the role, and Wahlberg has just thrown his hat into the ring. He's grown into a respected actor of action and comedy, and it's not necessarily a stretch to picture him as a wealthy, snarky playboy who saves the world time and time again.
