The first trailer for 'Jessabelle' has debuted online, the latest from Blumhouse Productions, the outfit that's brought us horror flicks like 'Insidious' and the recent 'Oculus,' which has us pretty optimistic about this southern-flavored spook show. The film features tarot cards, ghosts, and voodoo -- all suitably creepy elements.

'Jessabelle' tells the story of a young woman who is injured in a car crash and returns home to recuperate with her widowed father. When she uncovers a tape her deceased mother left with a special tarot card reading just for her, things start to get pretty darn scary. In addition to the ghostly presence haunting young Jessabelle, there's also a brief scene in the trailer featuring what appears to be voodoo symbols, so color us intrigued.

Directed by Kevin Greutert, who also directed 'Saw VI' and 'Saw 3D,' this film looks to be a bit more restrained than his previous directorial efforts. The script comes courtesy of Robert Ben Garant, former writer and star of 'Reno 911!' and writer of the 'Night at the Museum' films. This isn't Garant's first foray into horror, as he also wrote the horror comedy 'Hell Baby.'

'Jessabelle' stars Sarah Snook, Mark Webber, Joelle Carter, and Larisa Oleynik, and hits theaters on August 29.
