'The Tonight Show' Future: Jimmy Fallon Institutes a Name Change?Kevin Fitzpatrick |
With the dust from the purported "Late Night Wars" now settled, 'SNL' vet and 'Late Show' host Jimmy Fallon is set to take over 'The Tonight Show' from Jay Leno come spring 2014, but what changes to the franchise can fans expect? Apart from the major move from Los Angeles back to New York, what other modifications has Fallon made to 'The Tonight Show'?
It looks like Fallon will honor the legacy of 'The Tonight Show' with a plan to change its title. Via press release, we've learned that 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' will become 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,' as the show had originally been known when it was hosted by Johnny Carson.
Moreover, the show will add 'Late Night' writer Amy Ozols as the producer of the new 'Tonight Show,' with Lorne Michaels taking the role of executive producer. Said Fallon of the changes:
It’s been so fun working with Amy these past four years -- she's been a standout writer and producer since we started ‘Late Night.' She puts so much thought and care into everything she does and we share the same vision about making the best television that we can produce. I know she'll put that same intelligence, cleverness and care into ‘The Tonight Show.’ This is exciting.
What do you think? Will NBC add any more changes to 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' when Leno steps down in 2014? What do you hope to see from the future of late night?
