‘Avengers’ Star Mark Ruffalo Hints at Possibilities for New Hulk Solo MovieBritt Hayes |
Although Marvel hasn’t included a Hulk film in their Phase 3 plans, the possibility for a new solo movie for Bruce Banner and his smashing alter-ego isn’t entirely out of the question — Marvel did just make room for a new Spider-Man film on their schedule, after all. And while it doesn’t appear that the studio is actively developing a new Hulk movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron star Mark Ruffalo remains optimistic, hinting at the possibilities for his big green character in the future of the MCU.
In a new interview with Empire, Ruffalo admitted that he’s not sure when Marvel might get around to developing a new solo Hulk film, but as the dynamic between Bruce Banner and the Hulk evolves, that could change:
Who knows where these things will go, but as Bruce is able to impress his will on the Hulk – going into The Hulk and being inside the Hulk when he’s raging - The Hulk’s will is also growing and able to impress upon Bruce… It’ll be interesting to see if that ends up being what would be the next Hulk movie.
Given that Marvel’s two previous Hulk films were a bit underwhelming, the studio doesn’t appear to be in any rush to give it another shot. As Ruffalo points out, making a Hulk solo movie is a bit difficult, especially with the sort of redundant nature of Bruce’s personal struggle:
[A new feaure-length Hulk movie is] a tough nut to crack. Traditionally you’re watching a guy who doesn’t want to do the very thing that you want him to do. It’s hard to take for two hours. I don’t know how many times you can use that same framing for it, but now he’s maturing and there’s a cool dynamic growing between Banner and The Hulk.
Ruffalo keeps hinting at a dynamic shift that we’ll see explored in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Perhaps if the Hulk’s story continues to shift into something more interesting than the traditional push-pull, Marvel may very well find a reason to give Bruce Banner and Hulk their own movie again.
We’ll learn more about that “cool dynamic” Ruffalo’s talking about when Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1.
