When the 'Avengers' DVD and Blu-ray was announced, one mysterious item stood out: the short film 'Item 47.' No details were announced and we had no idea who would star in the short film and what it would be about. Well, now we know...

The short film is the latest in a series of Marvel shorts dubbed "One Shots" that previously followed Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg). For reasons we won't get into here, Coulson won't be returning and 'Item 47' will take a slightly different direction.

While the other shorts were around 4-minutes in length and at times comical, 'Item 47' will run 12-minutes and will instead by slightly more suspenseful.

'Item 47' stars Lizzy Caplan ('Cloverfield') and Jesse Bradford ('Swimfan,' 'Flags of our Fathers') as a down-and-out couple who find themselves suddenly in possession of one of the Chitauri guns after the invasion seen at the end of 'The Avengers.' The two make some increasingly poor decisions on how to utilize their new weapon, which leads to a pair of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents - played by Maximiliano Hernández (seen in 'The Avengers') and Titus Welliver ('LOST') - working to track the would-be Bonnie and Clyde down (coincidentally the characters are named Benny and Claire).

The short was directed by Louis D’Esposito, who also serves as Co-President for Marvel Studios.

Marvel will be showing off 'Item 47' in full during Comic-Con and if you want to find yourself in the audience, you need to download the "Avengers Second Screen" app, which will take you on a scavenger hunt of sorts that may land you a ticket to be the first to see the 'Avengers' short film.
