Marvel's Upcoming Movies Are Mapped Out For the Next 15 Years

While most of us don't have an idea what Marvel Studios is planning beyond 2016 (and, let's be honest, there's a whole cottage industry built around speculating what those future titles are), but Marvel knows exactly what they're doing. In fact, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has a map in his office that plots out the next 15 years of Marvel movies, all the way to 2028.

While Marvel is highly secretive, they did allow a Business Week reporter inside their California offices for an article about the company. Naturally, much of the article focuses on business and money, but there were a few important notes, specifically about how far into the future Marvel is planning. Says the article, "There’s a map of films reaching far into the next decade on the wall of Feige’s office." And that's not all. Feige himself says:

It’s like looking through the Hubble telescope. You go, 'What’s happening back there? I can sort of see it.' They printed out a new one recently that went to 2028.

That's 15 years of Marvel movies! Some of these we can certainly figure out, including obvious sequels like 'Avengers 3' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' (not to mention, the in-development 'Thor' and 'Captain America' sequels). But, beyond that, if we're going on two movies every year, that's 30 Marvel movies, the vast majority of which we know nothing about. So, what could they be?

As has been noted before, Feige says in the article they won't be recovering the film rights to the 'Spider-Man' or 'X-Men' films, so those characters are out. And while Feige was as tight-lipped as he usually is, Disney CEO Robert Iger opened up a little more. He told the magazine that he would like to "replicate the success of 'The Avengers'" by creating other Marvel superhero teams.

Marvel is already working on 'The Defenders' for Netflix (which will feature Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones) and could theoretically work on a West Coast Avengers, New Avengers, Secret Warriors, Heroes For Hire and more.

Iger also adds that Marvel could spinoff members of the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' into their own movies. (Is a Rocket Raccoon/Groot movie in the works?) A Black Widow spinoff is again hinted at, but it's unclear how likely that is.

One thing is clear: Marvel certainly knows what they're doing. The ability to map out the future way in advance got them to this point, where movies are crossing over with each other and living in a shared universe. It's that kind of forward thinking that has inspired Hollywood to follow suit and planning this far ahead could lead to movies even bigger than 'The Avengers'.

So, what do you think we could see from Marvel Studios in the next 15 years?
