It was only a couple of months ago that we were posting updates on Neill Blomkamp’s Alien movie just about every other day, as the director was hit with a barrage of questions about the upcoming project during the press tour for Chappie (oh hey, remember Chappie?). It’s been a while since we got an update on Blomkamp’s Alien project, but the director has revealed a new piece of concept art featuring a couple of familiar faces.

Blomkamp posted the new piece of artwork on Instagram, along with the caption “#alien going very well. Love this project.” In the artwork, you can see Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley along with Michael Biehn’s Hicks:

We don’t know much about the project just yet, although Blomkamp has previously said the film will serve as a more direct sequel to Alien and Aliens, essentially bypassing Alien 3 and Resurrection. Sigourney Weaver was responsible for encouraging Blomkamp’s ideas for the Alien film when she worked with the director on Chappie, and has been vocally supportive of the project — while also expressing her displeasure with the last two films in the series and the way they handled Ripley’s arc.

Blomkamp’s designs are always the most exciting part of his projects. He’s definitely a design-oriented filmmaker, though his screenplays — as he himself has acknowledged — tend to suffer. Hopefully Blomkamp will find an excellent screenwriter for his untitled Alien sequel, which is being produced by Ridley Scott and aiming for a 2017 release.

Scott, meanwhile, is still planning on a Prometheus sequel, which will function separately from Blomkamp’s Alien project.
