While The CW preps a potential spin-off for 'The Vampire Diaries,' and 'The Office' quietly turned down Dwight Schrute spin-off 'The Farm,' it seems ABC's 'Once Upon A Time' could soon get in on the spin-off game by developing a new series around its popular portrayal of 'Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter. And while as much as Sebastian Stan fans would love to see the actor in his own series, filming commitments to 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' may necessitate that the role be recast. Find out 'Once Upon A Time's Mad Hatter spin-off plans inside!

Though only present in six 'Once Upon A Time' episodes to date, 'Captain America' star Sebastian Stan's Mad Hatter has proven a fan favorite character that ABC may soon look to capitalize on. Deadline reports that the network has quietly begun considering a spin-off for the Mad Hatter character, the popularity of which would be gauged by an upcoming season 2 appearance, but with one major catch.

Given Sebastian Stan's current commitment to Broadway's 'Picnic,' to be immediately followed by his pivotal role as Bucky Barnes in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' and potentially beyond, ABC may look to recast the character. It isn't clear if 'Once Upon A Time's upcoming Mad Hatter appearance would feature the new actor in the role, or wait until a potential spin-off to cast anew.

Should the character's upcoming appearance "pop," the new Mad Hatter would likely be given a guest star spot with a series option, which has previously proven fruitful with stars Emile de Ravin (Belle), Meghan Ory (Red Riding Hood) and Colin O’Donoghue (Captain Hook). Interestingly, 'Once Upon A Time's proposed Mad Hatter spin-off could end up conflicting with NBC's upcoming 'Wonderland' drama, which itself was original developed with ABC studios.

Well, what say you? Would you want to see 'Once Upon A Time's Mad Hatter be given his own series, even if Sebastian Stan were replaced in the role? Tell us what you want to see from 'Once Upon A Time's future in the comments!
